Free price tag template

Make price tags for a whole shop from one product list. Pick a small sticker sheet, add the dollar sign and print a test before you run the full list.

How it works

  1. Paste your product list. Copy rows from Excel or Google Sheets, with the heading row, or upload the file. Include a Name column and a Price column. Each row becomes one price tag.
  2. Pick the sticker sheet. Choose Avery® 5167 for small shelf tags, or Avery® 5160 for a little more room. If your sheet is not on the list, use the Custom size option.
  3. Type the price wording and print. Use {Name} and {Price} in the text. Print a test on plain paper, hold it over a sheet to check the fit, then print at 100%.

Sheets for price tags

Small tags need short text. Pick the sheet that matches the space you have:

SheetSizeLabels per sheetGood for
Avery® 5167½" × 1¾"80Small shelf tags
Avery® 5195⅔" × 1¾"60Very small tags with a short price
Avery® 51601" × 2⅝"30A product name and a price
OnlineLabels OL10001" × 1.5"50Narrow shelf tags
Avery® 228062" × 2"12Square tags for bigger items

Check each sheet page for the full measurements before you buy. A label that is too small for the text will look cramped on the shelf.

Hang tags

Some price tags hang from an item instead of sitting on a shelf. For hang tags, print on the Avery® 8371 business-card sheet. It has 10 cards per sheet, each 2" × 3½". Then punch a hole in each card with a hole punch. Print one test card first, so you can check where the text and the hole fall.

Plan the list before you print

Start with one row for each product, and use the same column names every time. A Name column and a Price column are the minimum. Add a SKU column if you want a barcode on the tag, and a Sale column if some items need a different color. Check the list for blank prices and doubled spaces, because they are easy to miss once the labels are printed.

Common problems

  • The text is too big. Shorten the name, or make the font smaller for the whole sheet. Long names on a small tag can run off the edge.
  • The labels do not line up. Check the paper size, turn off Fit to page and print at 100%. Then print a test on plain paper.
  • The price shows no dollar sign. Add the sign in the wording, as described above.

Ideas you can type

The AI helper changes every label at once. Try asking for:

  • "Make the price bold and bigger than the name"
  • "Make the labels where Sale is Yes red"
  • "Make the labels for Clearance grey"
  • "Sort the labels by Department"
  • "Put the product name in small letters above the price"
  • "Add a barcode from the SKU column"

Before you print

  • Use the right paper. Most sheets on this list are US Letter. Check the paper size in the print window before you print.
  • Print at 100%. Choose Actual size, and turn off Fit to page, or the tags may shrink and the text may get too small to read.
  • Test first. Print one page on plain paper, and hold it over a sheet of tags. Look at the lines and the edges.

Tips

  • Keep names short. A small tag has room for one short name and one price.
  • Use the same column names every time, such as Name, Price and SKU.
  • Check every price against your register or price list before you print. A wrong tag is easy to miss on a busy day.
  • Keep one test sheet in a folder, so you can compare later prints.
  • For a spreadsheet set-up, read how to print labels from Excel. For codes on tags, see barcode labels.

Questions

Can I make price tags from a spreadsheet?

Yes. Paste your product list with a name column and a price column. Each row becomes one tag, so one list can make a whole shelf of tags.

Why does my price show without a dollar sign?

The label shows what is in the column. If the column has plain numbers, type the dollar sign in the wording, such as the dollar sign followed by the Price placeholder.

Which sheet is best for small shelf tags?

Avery® 5167 has 80 small labels on a letter sheet, each half an inch by one and three-quarter inches. Avery® 5160 has 30 labels with more room for a name and a price.

Can I print hang tags?

You can print on the Avery® 8371 business-card sheet and punch a hole in each card. Test the layout on plain paper first, so the text sits where you want it.
